Wedding Fairs can help when planning your Wedding so here are my top tips to ensure you are getting the best from Wedding Fairs.
In General
Wedding Fairs can be overwhelming when you first start looking for inspiration and advice. You can come across, so many things you didn’t even know were a thing, like fruit-based-buttonhole flowers for your groomsmen to personalised coat hangers for your bridesmaids, and even Wedding Day Llamas.
Keep in mind that you DO NOT NEED these things. Each couple has their own ideas on what they would like to have at their Wedding, which shows their style. And yes, for some, that is personalised coat hangers that are at least practical and reusable. 😊
Before
So, before you go to the wedding fair, sit down together and list things you would like included in your ceremony day. This gives you a focus as you wander around all the different stalls and will help you get the best from your Wedding Fair.
It’s also a good idea to find out how many suppliers will be at the Wedding Fair. This can give you an idea of how long you will be there.
Some fairs also have talks or presentations, catwalk shows, and the chance to try on suits and dresses, which can be helpful but time-consuming. Finding out before you go means you can give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the day.
At the Wedding Fair
Some of the larger Wedding Fairs will take all day to look around. Dress appropriately, and by this, I mean wear clothing AND shoes that you are comfortable in. You don’t want to be limping around in pain when you are trying to look at all the pretty, weird, and wondrous things.
Take a bag, a snack, and a bottle of water too.
The bag is for all the leaflets and (fingers crossed) freebies you will be given. Some Wedding Fairs have sensible planners who provide bags, but some do not, and trust me, there will be many leaflets.
The snack and the water are to keep your energy levels up as you wander around being bombarded with lots of information, people, and images. Yes, sometimes, free drinks and tasters are going around, but it is good to be prepared, especially if you have less catered for eating habits.
Enjoy yourselves as you look round. There are going to be some things you love and some ideas you find utterly ridiculous. However, love or hate something – you are narrowing down what you want at your Wedding and that’s why you are here.
Gather ALL the Information
As you are just starting planning, I suggest you say yes to everyone who wants to give you information unless it is a definite no. This way, you have many options and ideas. You don’t have to do them all. And you don’t have to do them at the level (or cost) that you have seen at the Wedding Fair, but you can incorporate the ideas you like into your day.
Back Home
Give it a day or two, and then go through your information haul.
Maybe make three piles to sort your leaflets and business cards: YES, MAYBE, NOPE. And then get sorting.
Or each of you looks through the information and picks out what would make the perfect Wedding Day. This can lead to the making of lists of what are dealbreaker-must-haves and it-would-be-nice-to-haves.
From here, you can build your budget, start contacting suppliers or plan your next Wedding Fair adventure to find even more inspiration to fill those missing gaps.
Remember
You are planning to show people how much you love each other for one day. It is a day where you get to be selfish and make it ALL about you. However, planning big events can be stressful, so take your time and focus on why you are doing all of this:
